Tornados and rainbows will feature in Tokomaru School’s The Wizard of Oz musical production next Wednesday.
The classic family story will be presented by all 65 pupils, with students performing on stage or in the chorus, and having made most of the props and stage scenes.
Co-director Rebecca Rasmussen said parents had helped by providing and making costume items.
“Kids love dressing up in costumes, as well as getting to do drama and dance,” she said.
The cast and crew have spent the whole school term rehearsing for production, which runs for nearly an hour and includes some clever and novel scene setting.
Playing lead character, Dorothy, is year 7 pupil Grace Berge, 11, who described the experience as exciting.
“The little kids at school say to me ‘hi Dorothy’,” she said.
Bella Hanley, 11, as the Wicked Witch, said she was looking forward to performing on stage. “With everyone coming to watch us it will be really fun.”
Wednesday, August 15, 6.30pm, Speirs Centre, Palmerston North Boys High School, North St. Adults $6, children under-13 $4, from Tokomaru School or at the door.
